How to Opt Out of BeenVerified — and Stay Out

BeenVerified is a background-report site. If someone pays for a report on you — a landlord, an employer doing an informal check, a stranger — BeenVerified is one of the places they'll land. A report can pull together your name, age and date of birth, current and past addresses, phone numbers and email addresses, relatives and known associates, court and property records, and social media profiles.

You can remove your listing for free. BeenVerified's opt-out is one of the more straightforward ones — about 5 to 10 minutes — as long as you use the right page. Here's the walkthrough, plus the part most guides leave out: how listings come back, and what staying out actually takes.

First, a word about look-alike sites

There are websites with names like "BeenVerified removal" that will happily charge you to file this request. Don't. The official opt-out is free, needs no BeenVerified account, and never asks for payment, a Social Security number, or a copy of your ID. If a page asks for any of those, you are not on the official form. The two official ways in are the direct opt-out address below, or the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link in the footer of any page on beenverified.com — both land on the same form.

The steps

  1. Go to the opt-out page. Open beenverified.com/svc/optout/search/optouts.
  2. Search for your record — on that page. Enter your first name, last name, and state, and click Search. Use the search box on the opt-out page itself, not the main site's search — the opt-out only works on records found through this page.
  3. Find your listing and pick it. You may see several near-matches. Check the age, the cities, and the relatives to find the one that's actually you, then click "Proceed to Opt Out" next to it.
  4. Enter your email and submit. Type in an email address you can open right away, complete the CAPTCHA, and click "Send Verification Email."
  5. Click the link in the email. BeenVerified sends a verification email — your request is not active until you open that email and click the link. It lands on a confirmation page. (If the email doesn't show up, check your spam folder.) Most listings clear within 24 to 72 hours after confirmation.

More than one record? That's common — a maiden name, an old address, a middle-initial variant can each create a separate record. One catch: BeenVerified's online opt-out only lets you remove one record. Run it on the first one, then email [email protected] about the rest. There is no "remove all of me" button.

Canceling a subscription is not the same thing

Quick distinction, because people confuse these constantly: if you once paid for BeenVerified reports, canceling that subscription stops your billing — it does nothing about your listing. And removing your listing (the steps above) doesn't cancel a subscription. Two separate systems, two separate actions.

Now the "stay out" half

Here's the honest part. BeenVerified continually rebuilds its database from public records and commercial data sources. A record you remove today can reappear — often within a few months — when fresh data flows in. This is true of every people-search site, not just this one. One opt-out is a snapshot, not a permanent state.

Staying out means checking back on a schedule and re-filing when you reappear. You can absolutely do this yourself — set a reminder every few months and run through the big sites. Most people don't, which is a fair summary of why GoodFence exists: we check 54 sites monthly and re-file removals when listings return, so you don't have to think about it.

See where else you're listed — free

BeenVerified is 1 of the 54 people-search sites we check at GoodFence. Before you spend a weekend chasing opt-out forms one site at a time, get the map: run your free exposure scan at getgoodfence.com. It shows which sites are listing you right now — and if you'd rather hand off the removing and the re-checking, we'll handle it from there.
